The Bank of England developed The Money Anthology in collaboration with the Prize; this is a collection of eight original works that explore the complexities of money and our relationship with it and is edited by the best-selling author, Saima Mir.
The stories range from 800 to 1,200 words and investigate how financial considerations can shape personal identity, influence career paths and affect relationships. The stories are written to spark debate and discussion in the classroom, and encourage students to explore key financial concepts and reflect on their own relationships with money.
Each story comes with recommended activities designed to complement the English curriculum, for use during form time or as part of a pastoral curriculum. These lessons are aligned with the following specifications:
- GCSE English Language
- GCSE English Literature
- National 5 English
We developed these resources with Jenny Webb, an experienced English teacher, author and blogger, and Gemma Molyneux who works in teacher education. A series of webinars exploring classroom approaches to using the anthology are also available.
